Family Sessions {What to Wear}
Posted on October 30, 2009
I’ve had a few questions about what to wear for your upcoming holiday portrait sessions, so I thought I’d put together a few blog posts with some ideas on color palettes and outfit choices. First, you should decide if you’d like to go dressy or casual, then, decide on a color scheme. When shopping for outfits that will photograph well, think “color” and “texture.” Knits such as sweaters, corduroy and denim all photograph really well. Choose your favorite color such as purple or blue and mix in various neutrals such as tan, brown or charcoal. Also think in layers to make outfits fun and interesting. Here is a sample color scheme you can choose to go with. You can easily switch out all of the purple tones for another color such as red or orange. Basically, just try to stay away from all white or black, which sort of blends all the members of your family into one. If they each have their own, individual outfit that fits into the main scheme, they’ll all stand out!
The following outfits can all be found at Old Navy’s website. Here is an example of layering and using textures to make your photos more interesting. This is also a more casual option than the first one:
I will try to do several of these posts before my mini-sessions dates in a couple of weeks to give you all plenty of options and ideas for your own family portraits!

This was the cutest family and I had so much fun with the boys. They were such troopers, especially since it was our first “cool” day and it was pretty chilly this morning!
